SHS Quiz Bowl Team Places 5th of 32 at Bellevue University Contest
The SHS Quiz Bowl team placed 5th of 32 teams entered in the recent Bellevue University Quiz Bowl tournament, held on Friday, March 5th at their campus. The event allowed only one team per school and is by invitation only. This is the first year Seward was invited.
The SHS Seward Quiz Bowl team included Mandi Drohman-Captain, Andrew Sorsen, Micah Moravec and Zach Bruick. The team won their first round against Sioux City HS-North 205 to 75, they advanced to be defeated by Elkhorn HS 85-160, and went on to win 195-85 against Sioux City West. The SHS team then defeated Nebraska City 125-45 and Platteview HS 125-80. They eventually lost to Norfolk HS in a very close round until the end 85-120. Clark Kolterman serves as the team’s coach. The team is sponsored by the School District of Seward High Ability Learner Program funding.
The tourney was won by Ralston HS with Bellevue West A as the runner-up. Schools participating included Ralston, Nebraska City, Bellevue West, Milford, Clarinda, Blair, Weeping Water, Norris, Fremont Mills, Platteview, Omaha Bryan, Norfolk, East Butler, Louisville, Omaha Christian, Thomas Jefferson, Gross Catholic, Blair, Lincoln Northeast, Centennial, Elkhorn, Columbus, Bennington, Sioux City North, Sioux City South, Sioux City West, Conestoga, Plattsmouth and Seward.
