Seward High Participates in Central Conference Speech Meet
Sorsen Captures Extemp Crown at Conference Speech Tourney

Seward High Senior, Andrew Sorsen, captured the first place medal at the recent Central Conference Speech Tournament held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at York High School in York, NE. The tourney featured nine events with the ten schools in the Central Conference in competition. He also won the sixth place medal in Persuasive Speaking on the topic of consideration for a stronger third party system. Other medalists from Seward High included Stephanie Rippstein with the second place medal in Persuasive Speaking promoting the benefits of art education. Ariana Miller won the fourth place medal in Poetry featuring a collection of poems dealing with fairy tales with a new twist and Michelle Ness also won a fourth place medal in the Entertaining category on the topic of “Spider Phobia’s!”
Other students competing from Seward included Matt Johnson-Informative-Superior, Katie Beckler-Serious-Superior, Dayna Svoboda-Serious-Superior, Bobi Albrecht and Jessica Kadavy-Duet-Superior, Blake Vajgrt-Extemp-Superior, Jillian Kongsjord-Humorous-Superior, Daniel Pfeiffer-Humorous-Superior, Katie Thrailkill-Poetry-Superior, Stephanie Rippstein-Informative-Superior, Sarah Garbers-Entertaining-Superior and the SHS Drama Teams included Team #1 Dayna Svoboda, Michelle Ness, Carl Heinicke, Daniel Pfeiffer and Jillian Kongsjord-OID-Superior, Carson Shepherd, Arianna Miller, Sarah Garbers and Bobi Albrecht-OID-Excellent.
The team is coached by Clark Kolterman. Columbus Lakeview won the tournament and Aurora was second. Seward placed fifth. Schools participating included Seward, Columbus Lakeview, Aurora, York, Schuyler, Holdrege, Central City, Grand Island Northwest, Fairbury and Crete. Seward will travel to Schuyler to compete at their NSAA State Qualifying District Speech Tourney on Saturday, Feb. 27th. The NSAA State Contest is March 18th in Kearney.
