The Seward Middle School Student Council and Builders Club sponsored a “penny war” to raise money for the Haiti relief fund. Over $4000 was raised during the week of January 25-29 to help the earthquake victims in Haiti. Money raised was donated to the American Red Cross.
The Toptime/Homeroom classes competed against each other to see who could collect the most money. The winning group got juice and donuts. Most students donated coins, but there were also a large amount of bills and checks brought in as well. Even though it is called a “penny war” all types of money were collected. On Friday, which was the last day of the competition, the students and staff were encouraged to make one more big push to bring in money. On that day alone, $1900 was brought in.
The student body and staff at Seward Middle School did a great job of making this fund raising activity a huge success. It was amazing to see the enthusiasm and pride that was shown by Seward Middle School during the Haiti Relief Penny War.
