Dayna Svoboda Wins Shakespeare Monologue Contest At the State Fair
Seven SHS students participated in the Shakespeare Monologue Contest at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island on August 29, 2010. Each contestant was required to memorize and present a cutting from a Shakespeare play that was 25 to 60 lines, with an introduction and in costume.
SHS senior Dayna Svoboda placed first in the morning contest, presenting a cutting from “Henry IV” as Lady Percy. She was presented with a rosette, plaque and savings bond scholarship.
Jilian Kongsjord placed third as Phebe from “As You Like It,” Jaclyn Pennigton was Juliet from “Romeo and Juliet” and placed fourth, placing fifth was Daniel Pfeiffer as MacBeth from “MacBeth,” and Bobi Ahlbrect selected a Witches scene from “MacBeth” and placed sixth, Other SHS students presented Honorable Mention were Stacey Chekal as Rosalind from “As You Like It,” and C.J. Johnson from “Julius Caesar,” as Mark Anthony.
In the Impromptu Speaking program, Carl Heinicke placed third, Brandon Odell placed fifth and CJ Johnson placed sixth.
