SHS Participates In Education Division at the New Nebraska State Fair Activities 2010
Seward High School participated in a variety of activities at the new Nebraska State Fair Education Division activities on August 28 and 29, 2010 at the new State Fair Park in Grand Island.
On August 28, 2010, SHS students traveled to participate in the Freshman Quiz Bowl contest and compete in tests in Science, Math, History and Spelling.
The two Freshman Quiz Bowl teams included Team Blue: Nathan Sorsen, Lauren Wilcox, Brittany Ringler and Jared Kongsjord. Team Gold included Hannah Moody, Shelby Lewis, Chelsey Odell, Cale Miller and Hayli Frosheisher. Both teams participated in the Round Robin tourney in the morning and the single elimination tourney in the afternoon.
Tests were also presented throughout the day in Math, Science, History and Spelling. The students all participated in the activity from their grade last year.
Zach Bruick won the third place award in the History Test for grades 9-10. In the Science Test, Micah Moravec won Third Place, Zach Bruick won the fourth place award and Joey Couch won Sixth Place rosette. In the spelling contest Zach Bruick, Carl Heinicke, Sarah Moody and Daniel Pfeiffer all qualified for the final round and received Honorable Mention.
Students participating on Saturday included C.J. Johnson, Brandon Odell, Brittany Ringler, Shelby Lewis, Hayli Fresheiser, Lauren Wilcox, Joey Couch, Sierra Wignall, Zach Bruick, Daniel Pfeiffer, Jared Kongsjord, Nathan Sorsen, Carl Heinicke, Sarah Moody, Arianna Bohning, Micah Moravec, Cale Miller, Hannah Moody and Chelsea O’dell. Clark Kolterman and Helen Banzhaf served as sponsors for the day’s events.
Seward High was recognized with the top Community Service Award by the State Fair and received a plaque, rosette and cash award for their recycling and environmental activities, such as recycling newspapers, tin and participating in the community clean-up program.
Jackie Uhing placed 5th overall in the State Fair Essay Contest on the topic “Nebraska the Good Life!” She was presented with a rosette.
