SHS Senior, Micah Kohlwey is First Youth Rotarian of the School Year!
Seward High Senior, Micah Kohlwey was selected the first Seward Youth Rotarian of the Seward High school year for the month of August. He is the son of Marty and Sue Kohlwey of Seward. Micah was introduced and honored at the August 25, 2010 Seward Rotary luncheon meeting, held at the Jones National Bank and Trust in Seward and presented with some Rotary Club information and mementos. He was also the recipient of a Rotary Club Book Scholarship, sponsored by Ann Underwood at Home Realty of Seward and Al Underwood Construction of Seward.
Micah is an athlete and was involved in football as a freshman. He will have participated in basketball all four years of high school, starting as a varsity player his Sophomore year. He participates in track as well, in a variety of running events. Micah has been a member of the Select Concert Choir for three years. Micah serves as one of the leaders in the Seward High Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) organizaition.
Micah is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. He is active in the youth program and a member of the St. John Godparent program. He attended the recent National Youth Gathering in New Orleans with the St. John youth.
Micah is employed at the Seward Pac and Sav Grocery Store and worked in the fields for Sloup Detassling.
In his “Service Above Self” activities, Micah has been involved in three mission trips, one to Montana to a Native American Reservation and two to New Orleans, working to help those in Hurricane Katrina and to help rebuild a local Boy Scout camp. He also has been involved in several youth basketball camps and helps with the Seward Recreation program. He has volunteered at the Lincoln City Mission and assisted in various recycling programs in the area.
He plans to attend a four year, private college, but has not made the decision as to where he will go to school. He hopes to play basketball at the next level and participate in mission work overseas.
The Seward Rotary Club honors one student a month with the Seward Youth Rotarian of the Month award. Each student is honored at a Rotary meeting, presented with mementos and receives a Rotary Club Book Scholarship. They are all honored again in May at SHS Honors Night and one is selected at the Seward Youth Rotarian of the Year for their “Service Above Self!” Applications are available in the SHS Counselors lobby table.
