Rippstein to Represent SHS At Regional “Poetry Out Loud” Contest in Kearney
Seward High Senior, Stephanie Rippstein will represent the high school at the Regional Competition for the “Poetry Out Loud” poetry recitation contest to be held in Kearney on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at the Nebraska Museum of Art at 2:00 pm. The contest is open to the public and area students will be competing for the right to represent their schools at the state contest to be held in Lincoln in March.
She will present three memorized poems which include “Solitude” by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, “The Slave Auction” by Frances Ellen Watkins Harper and “A Psalm of Life” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Stephanie won the right to represent Seward at the regional contest by winning the local contest sponsored by the Seward Arts Council. The national contest is sponsored by the National Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. The state contest is sponsored by the Nebraska Arts Council.
Locally, 34 students competed for the right to represent Seward in Kearney. Clark Kolterman, Seward Arts Council President, served as the chair for the local event.
