Seward High Wins Nine Medals in Five Events at Conference Speech

Ryan Coufal is Selected Central Conference Champion in Extemporaneous Speaking Event!

Seward High School sent a full team to compete at the recent Central Conference Speech tournament at Columbus Lakeview High School near Columbus, NE on Friday, February 15, 2008 and they returned with nine medals in four individual events and one team event.  SHS Junior Ryan Coufal won the Championship Medal in Extemporaneous Pubic Speaking.

 

Seward High students that qualified for the finals and medaled at the annual Conference Speech Meet included….

Ryan Coufal-First Place Medal-Extemporaneous Speaking and Fifth Place-Drama Team

Stephanie Rippstein-Sixth Place Medal-Serious Prose Literature

Andrew Sorsen-Seventh Place Medal-Persuasive Public Address

Paul D. Myers-Sixth Place Medal-Humorous Prose Literature

Nathan Broeker-Fifth Place Medal-Drama Team

Evan Canning-Fifth Place Medal-Drama Team

Jillian Konsjord-Fifth Place Medal-Drama Team

Josh McKey-Fifth Place Medal-Drama Team

 

Superior ratings were presented to Ryan Coufal in Extemp and Drama Team, Eric Heinicke in Entemp, Andrew Sorsen in Persuasion, Jenna Hoins in Persuasion,  Paul D. Myers in Humorous Prose, Nathan Broeker in Informative and Drama Team, Evan Canning in Drama Team, Tanner Smith in Informative, Stephanie Rippstein in Serious Prose, Sarah Garber in Entertaining, Josh McKey in Drama Team and Poetry, Jillian Konsjord in Drama Team.

 

Excellent Conference ratings were presented to Jillian Konsjord in Serious Prose Literature, Mandi Drohman in Poetry, Robert Kolterman and Eric Heinicke in Duet, Evan Canning in Humorous Prose, and Rhiannon Root in Entertaining.

 

There were ten schools competing in the Central Conference and Seward placed seventh in the Sweepstakes Contest.    Aurora High School won the contest and Crete High School was Conference Runner-UP.  Seward’s team is coached by Clark Kolterman, Speech and English teacher at Seward High School.  Seward will compete at the NSAA District Speech Contest on March 4 at Lincoln East High School to attempt to qualify speakers for the State Contest in Kearney on March 18th, 2008.  Schools in Seward’s B-3 NSAA Speech District include Beatrice, Crete, Fairbury, York, Norris, Milford and Seward.  The top three in each event qualify for the State Speech Contest.
