Seward High Speech Team Places Third at the Milford Speech Meet

The Seward High Speech team captured seven individual medal and two team medals at the recent Milford High School Speech tournament held at Milford, Nebraska on Saturday, February 16, 2008 and placed third in the finals contest.    SHS Junior Ryan Coufal won first place medal in Extemporaneous Speaking and SHS Sophomore Andrew Sorsen won first place medal in Persuasive Public Speaking.  Other SHS students that qualified for the finals included Jenna Hoins in Persuasion with the fourth place medal, Andrew Sorsen in Extemporaneous with the third place medal, Rhiannon Root in Entertaining with the fourth place medal, Robert Kolterman and Eric Heinicke with 5th place in Duet Acting, and the Drama Team of Nathan Broeker, Evan Canning, Ryan Coufal, Jillian Konsjord and Josh McKey with third place medal.  Evan Canning and Josh McKey were presented the Novice first place medals in their events of Humorous Prose and Poetry.

 

Superior ratings were presented to Nathan Broeker in Informative Speaking, Tanner Smith in Informative Speaking, Jenna Hoins in Persuasion, Andrew Sorsen in Persuasion, Robert Kolterman and Eric Heinicke in Duet Acting, Stephanie Rippstien in Serious Prose Literature, Evan Canning in Humorous Prose Literature, Rhiannon Root in Entertaining Speaking, Josh McKey in Poetry. Eric Heinicke in Extemporaneous Speaking and the SHS Drama Team also won superior ratings.

 

Excellent ratings were presented to Jillian Konsjord in Serious Prose Literature and Sarah Garbers in Entertaining Speaking.

 

The team is coached by SHS English and Speech instructor, Clark Kolterman.  Milford High School won the tournament and York High was named runner-up.
